Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir

Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir is a 16-voice chamber choir of singers ranging in age from 18-26 years.  The singers currently in this ensemble come from several different career paths. They have a thirst for repertoire that is diverse and challenging, sung in a multitude of languages from various regions of the world. The choir evolved out of the graduated singers of the Queensland Young Conservatorium Chamber Choir, Australia, because the singers wanted to continue working with each other in the atmosphere created by their director, Dr. Debra Shearer-Dirié.  Now in its third year, there has been enthusiastic interest from singers graduating from Secondary School to join Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir.  It is part of the mission of the choir to attract those musicians who have sung in an extraordinary choral program in secondary school so that they can continue to nurture and nourish their musical interests within high standard musical performances and with musicians of like-minded aspirations.

In programming the ensemble attempts to perform music that is not often heard within its home country, both by Australian and International composers. Since its inception the ensemble has been invited to sing at the Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) National Conference in Hobart in 2006 and at The Kodály Music Education Institute of Australia (KMEIA) National Conference in Canberra in 2008. Vox Pacifica Chamber Choir performs regularly throughout South East Queensland. In 2007 they performed at St. John’s Cathedral as part of Cathedral’s week, in the beautiful acoustic of the Queensland Art Gallery, at which they performed the World Premiere of Gerardo Dirié’s ‘De Clavibus Memoriae’ and with the Budgerim Male Choir in Caloundra. 2008 brings several collaborations with other youth and adult choirs in the region. The ensemble is also preparing for international touring in 2009.
